About the Collection
Until autumn of 2019 the Hall of Gems, together with the Hall of Minerals, will be closed and the collection unavailable to the public. Watch for the opening date, because even before the renovation this was one of the most visually stunning sections of the museum.
What You Will See
Visitors were once able to see precious stones from around the world, cut and uncut, including the world's largest saphhire, the **Star of India**. Look for this to be a central exhibit when the hall reopens.
Why You Should Go
There is nothing to see currently, but check out the [collections online](https://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/permanent-exhibitions/earth-and-planetary-sciences-halls/morgan-memorial-hall-of-gems) in the meantime. Or stop by the Hall of Meteorites or the Hall of Planet Earth to see less-precious geological oddities.
