About the Museum

For three years the Studio Museum will be closed while it builds an impressive new building for its collection. Until then, the museum has a small gallery space on 127th street where programming continues.

What You Will See

The Studio Museum is a Harlem institution, having showcased the works of black artists since 1968. Exhibitions are heavily contemporary, with all the risks that come with them--visitors have discovered their new favorite artists or walked away questioning the nature of art itself. While the main museum is closed, stop by the temporary gallery space at 127th street for ongoing exhibitions and events.

Why You Should Go

The reopening of the Studio Museum will be the biggest event in New York museums of 2021. Until then, visit the temporary space on 127th street or one of Harlem's many other museums.
