With major installations at not only the Met but also the MoMA and the Whitney, Jacob Lawrence is the artist for 2020 in New York City. The largest of the exhibitions is The American Struggle at the Met, which reunites nearly all 30 panels created by the artist as part of his Struggle series. Envisioned as sixty paintings covering defining events in American history through World War II, the actual thirty portray the dramatic period of the founding of America through early westward expansion. This is the first time so many pieces from this impressive series have been assembled in one place.
