Consider Madame Tussauds. The New York branch of this worldwide tourist behemoth is now a fixture in Times Square. But before dismissing this an option for your precious museum time (and money), remember that the tradition of wax sculpture dates back hundreds of years and that Madame Tussaud herself first sculpted the likeness of Voltaire. Now we sculpt Robert Pattinson and Katy Perry. The tradition is merely a mirror of society. Wax gives us what we want.

You will see exactly what you expect to see here: wax likenesses of your favorite (and least-favorite) celebrities from film, movies, television, and TV. Look carefully and you'll find a few examples of scientists and politicians, as they appeared on TV. A number of additional experiences are available to visitors, including an interactive 4D movie to battle the undead. While few will argue there are better ways to spend your limited museum time than a pricey few hours at Madame Tussauds, it is still worthy of consideration. After all, no matter how healthy your diet, there is a time when Cheetoes fit your mood. No matter how high-minded your TV schedule, sometimes you just need reruns of reality shows. We should all watch more documentaries, but on a long flight, Transformers might fit the bill. You will know when the time is right for a visit. Until then, Madame Tussaud will be waiting.
